‘Drive Your Story’ with these five road trip adventures

The most epic road trip experience in Western Australia’s South West awaits.

Whether it’s autumn, winter, spring or summer – you can enjoy the most wonderous tourism trails from the comfort of your car. The Margaret River Busselton Tourism Association has planned out five picture-perfect adventures, which we’ll take a peek at below. So strap on your seatbelt, get your camera poised, and let’s go!

Busselton Bay & Bounty Trail

Busselton is the kind of town where family memories are made. From the iconic jetty to the vast calm bay bordered with picturesque pine trees, lots of relaxed places to dine, and the quintessential WA downtown streets to wander lazily in your flipflops. The trail takes in historical Wonnerup House, tranquil Tuart Ludlow Forest, and heart-thumping action-packed afternoons with Forest Adventures South West. Of course, no trip is complete without exploring the iconic Busselton Jetty, food and drink scene, so cosy up at wineries like Flametree Wines and breweries including The Sophisticated Beast.

Dunsborough Graze & Bathe Trail

If sunshine was a town, it would be Dunsborough. It’s happy and welcoming, and a very cool place to be. Float away blissfully in the impossibly pristine Meelup Beach waters, people-watch and brunch in town, and then explore the craggy ancient rocks that adorn the coastline. This driving trail covers foodie favourites like Gabriel’s Chocolate and Yallingup Cheese Co, meanders past the natural wonders of Ngilgi Cave and Sugarloaf Rock, and stops in for a brew at Wild Hop and a sip on wine at exquisite Wills Domain too.

Gracetown Cowaramup Harvest & Vines Trail

Stretching from the peaceful surf mecca of Gracetown, across the plentiful landscape of Caves Road (arguably one of the best tourist roads in the world) and further east to up-and-coming hot spot Cowaramup; there’s a lot packed in this drive. If you’re a wine-lover, you’ll be in heaven with visits to Domaine Naturaliste, Cullen, and Howard Park Wines. You’ll also take in breweries, and gourmet nibbles at the Providore and the Margaret River Chocolate Company.

Margaret River Surf & Source Trail

As one of Australia’s most well-known towns, our Margaret River barely needs an introduction. This neat package has it all: deeply forested and dotted with ancient caves, thundering ocean surf and clifftop bird watching, classic degustation experiences and horse riding adventures. With so much to see and do, what will your drive involve? Augusta Caves & Coastline Trail

Get swept up in the wild scenery that beckons from this neck of the woods. The quieter sibling to the more extroverted towns in the region, Augusta and its surrounding area offers just as many spoils and its own unique flavour. Kayak up the serene Blackwood River, flanked by lush green scenery, or take a deep stroll through a sun-dappled Boranup Forest, before climbing handsome Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse which has faced down a century of storms. It’s raw, real beauty here.
